WHAT ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Eyelash Extensions are an entirely new method of enhancing the length and thickness of your own natural eyelashes and are perfect for special occasions or for day-to-day wear.  Lash extensions are single strands of synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash.  They are applied to each individual natural upper eyelash one-by-one for a natural, beautiful and luscious look.  Traditional false lashes usually last only a few days to a week, often looking unnatural and feeling heavy on your eyes.  Our lash extensions are weightless and are very comfortable on the eyes.  The adhesive is formulated for a permanent bond and dries soft on lashes so they remain flexible and bouncy.

HOW LONG WILL A SET OF EYELASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

When applied properly, your extensions will last the length of the natural growth cycle of your eyelashes which may last up to two months.  Results will differ based on daily activities and general after-care will ultimately affect how long the extensions last.  We recommend getting a touch up every 2 to 3 weeks.  Your natural eyelashes shed every 45 – 60 days due to the natural growth cycle and are naturally replaced with the growth of a new eyelash.  Again, this may vary from client to client due to your natural lash cycle.  Touch ups generally take a short time and are relatively inexpensive.

CAN EYELASH EXTENSIONS BE REMOVED?

Yes, they can easily be removed by your lash artist.  Please do not attempt to remove any lashes on your own as you could damage your natural lashes this way.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO APPLY EYELASH EXTENSIONS TO MY EYES?

The application process for eyelash extensions normally take 90-120 minutes for a full set of lashes and 45-60 minutes for a refill. Your natural lashes will be cleaned and prepped. During the application your lower lashes will be secured with nice soothing eye pads and lashes will applied to your upper lashes one by one. You will lay comfortably with your eyes closed while relaxing to ambient music played in the background.

HOW ARE THE EXTENSIONS APPLIED?

You will lay comfortably with your eyes closed for the duration of the application.  The extension of appropriate length, thickness, and curl is selected, dipped in a tiny amount of surgical-grade adhesive, and attached near the base of one natural eyelash.  Many clients fall asleep during this relaxing procedure.

WILL MY NATURAL LASHES BE DAMAGED?

No.  The most important thing is to make sure you are having them properly applied by a highly-trained licensed and certified lash extension artist.  The adhesive dries very soft on lashes, allowing the lashes to stay flexible and bouncy just like your own lashes.  In fact, many people’s lashes become healthier as a result of wearing eyelash extensions because there is no need to wear mascara or curl your lashes anymore, which can be very damaging to lashes.

We have many clients that have been with us for years and their natural lashes are strong and healthy. In the field of lash extensions, “lash artists” are not always licensed estheticians or certified lash artists, therefore, they do not properly isolate your natural lash (which results in lashes glued together) or they will apply very heavy lashes (we use the lightest weight lashes on the market).

ARE VOLUME LASHES THE SAME AS CLUSTER LASHES?

NO! Volume lashes are not to be confused with cluster lashes. Cluster lashes are a quick and easy alternative to volume lashes. Cluster lashes are pre-made fans with 4-7 synthetic fibers bound together at their base with a tiny plastic knot. Cluster lashes are heavy and not customizable. Volume lashes are custom made lightweight fans that your lash artist builds and applies during your lash appointment. Volume lashes are much healthier for your lashes and result in a much cleaner look than cluster lashes.

CAN I WEAR EYE MAKE-UP TO MY LASH APPOINTMENT?

It’s required that your eye area be clean and completely free of makeup. You can wear moisturizer and foundation but no liquid liner or mascara. Your lash artist will ask you to remove any makeup around your eye area before the start of your appointment. Come prepared with a clean eye area so your artist has the most time possible to spend on your lashes.  Please review the information on the before your eyelash extension appointment page.

HOW SOON BEFORE MY SPECIAL EVENT CAN I GET MY LASHES DONE?

We recommend at least 2 days before your scheduled event.  If you have never had lash extensions applied before, we recommend coming in 2-3 weeks prior to your event for a full set, then book a lash fill a few days prior to the actual event date. As with any beauty enhancing treatment, it may take time to adjust to your new look.

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY NEW EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Following all after-care instructions on the Lashed By Ash website will assist in extending the life of your lash extensions.

CAN I SWIM, SHOWER, EXERCISE, OR VISIT A SPA WHILE WEARING EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Yes, but steam, excessive water, and oils do weaken the bond of the adhesive so if you are doing hot yoga everyday or swimming/wearing tons of sunscreen, etc. you may need to come in closer to 2-2.5 weeks instead of the usual 3-4 week rotation. We recommend that you do not wash or wet your lashes for 4 hours after the eyelash application to allow your lashes to “set” completely.

CAN I APPLY MASCARA TO EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Yes, even though one of the greatest benefits of Eyelash Extensions is eliminating the need for mascara on a daily basis.  Having extensions actually gives the illusion of wearing mascara.  DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATER-PROOF MASCARA as these can dissolve the bonding agent and shorten the life of your extensions causing them to fall out sooner.  Care also needs to be taken in washing off the mascara being careful to use only water-based make-up remover, such as Lash Bath.  With volume lash extensions, we recommend you do not wear mascara.

CAN I USE EYELASH CURLERS WITH EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

We do not recommend using mechanical eyelash curlers on your eyelash extensions as these curlers will damage the extensions and possibly your own natural eyelashes.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A LASH SHOULD LOOKSEN OR BECOME DISLODGED?

Do not pull on the lash. Please contact Lashed By Ash to make an appointment to have them removed or replaced, to avoid damage to your natural lash. As your natural lashes fall out due to the growth cycle, you will need refills when new lashes grow. At first you may find you need a refill every 2 weeks. As you become accustomed to the extensions and with a little practice maintaining the lashes, the time between refills can be extended to 3 weeks. When you come for the refill, we take the loose or hanging ones off and replace with new lashes. Each time you come for a reset; we will match the same quantity of eyelashes as your previous new set.

I HAD LASH EXTENSIONS A FEW DAYS AGO AND SOME HAVE FALLEN OUT ALREADY.  WHY?

The eyelash growth cycle and it is hard to determine which lash is ready to fall out naturally. Each day we can lose between 3-5 natural eyelashes, nut usually we don’t notice when they fall out. But when eyelash extensions are applied, we are more aware when they shed as eyelash extensions are darker and thicker. If you sleep on your side, you face will squash against the pillow and may cause the eyelashes on that side to fall out quicker than the other side.

CAN I WEAR CONTACTS WITH EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

YES! Lash extensions should make your life easier, not complicated with restrictions.

CAN I RECEIVE LASH EXTENSIONS IF MY LASHES ARE TINTED OR DYED?

Yes, it is safe to receive eyelash extensions on tinted or dyed eyelashes. However, it is not recommended to tint, dye, or perm lashes after having lash extensions applied.

WHAT IF I HAVE AN ALLERGIC REACTION EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

An allergic reaction to lash extensions is extremely rare.  The most common allergic reaction to lash extensions – red, itchy, or puffy eyes after lash extensions. When an allergic reaction does occur, symptoms typically resolve within 48 hours.

** If you suffer from seasonal allergies, lash extensions can sometimes contribute to the symptoms of your seasonal allergies when you already have very sensitive, irritated eyes.

Here are a few at-home tips which can provide relief if you feel you are having an allergic reaction to lash extensions:

  • Take an antihistamine medication such as Benadryl
  • Use an OTC antihistamine eye drop such as Zatidor

I love my lashes!

I went in for a new customer full set eyelash extensions today and they came out perfect! She knew what style looked good on me. I wanted them to be spread out and have volume and she gave me that and better. I like that she took the time to make them perfect and wasn’t in a hurry. I was so comfortable that I fell asleep for a bit throughout the process 😂
